CUSTOMER VERIFICATION & ID
Knowing Who We Are Collecting From
Scrap metal transactions require greater traceability than many ordinary collections. JHR may therefore need to verify the identity of the person or business supplying material and retain the appropriate transaction information.
This helps maintain a legitimate chain of custody and protects responsible customers as well as the business.
Where identification is required, JHR will explain what is needed before or during the collection.
CASHLESS SCRAP TRANSACTIONS
Clear, Traceable Payment
JHR operates on a cashless basis for scrap purchases.
Payments are made using an appropriate traceable payment method rather than cash, creating a clear link between the supplier, transaction and payment.
This provides both parties with a better record of the transaction and supports the legal requirements applying to scrap metal purchases.
WASTE DOCUMENTATION & DUTY OF CARE
Waste Documentation Without the Scrapyard Hassle
Businesses producing waste have responsibilities over how that material is handled and where it goes.
Where waste documentation is required, JHR’s aim is to make that process part of the collection rather than something the customer has to organise separately afterwards.
Collection records can capture the information required to identify the customer, material, collection and receiving route, helping create a clear chain of responsibility.
For businesses regularly generating copper cable, brass or other suitable non-ferrous material, this also creates a much better long-term record than informal or undocumented disposal.
Professional collection should make compliance easier — not create more paperwork for the customer.
MAKING WASTE DIGITAL
Preparing for Digital Waste Tracking
The UK’s waste tracking system is moving towards digital records designed to improve traceability and provide clearer information about where waste comes from, how it moves and where it ultimately goes.
JHR is designing its collection and record-keeping processes around this digital-first direction rather than waiting until the last minute to adapt.
1 October 2026
Mandatory Digital Waste Tracking requirements begin for receiving sites within the relevant rollout.
October 2027
The requirements extend further to collectors, carriers, brokers and dealers within the wider waste movement system.
By building structured digital collection records early, JHR can make the eventual transition far simpler for both the business and its customers.
For regular commercial customers this has another advantage: collection information can be organised consistently rather than being scattered across handwritten paperwork, messages and separate records.
CUSTOMER BENEFITS
What Better Compliance Means for You
Compliance should not just benefit regulators or waste businesses. Done properly, it makes the collection process better for the customer too.
PRODUCER DUTY OF CARE
Your Duty of Care Does Not End at the Gate
Businesses that produce waste have a responsibility to take reasonable steps to ensure it is transferred to an appropriate person and handled correctly.
Choosing a professional collector therefore matters.
JHR aims to make it easy for customers to identify who is collecting their material, understand the collection process and retain the appropriate records.
This is particularly useful for trades and businesses that generate material regularly and want something more structured than simply finding whoever will take it away.
Know who collects it. Record what leaves. Keep the transaction traceable.
RESPONSIBLE RECOVERY
Keeping Valuable Material in Productive Use
JHR specialises in recoverable non-ferrous material rather than general waste.
The focus is on identifying valuable metal, separating and processing it where appropriate and directing it into established recovery routes where it can re-enter the materials supply chain.
Typical material may include:
Copper cable and wire
Copper offcuts
Singles, tails and earth cable
Twin & earth
SWA and heavier cable
Flex and mixed wire
Part and redundant reels
Copper-bearing material
Brass fittings
Brass valves
Brass taps
Brass swarf and turnings
Copper swarf
Bronze and gunmetal swarf
Tungsten carbide scrap such as worn inserts, tips, drills and end mills
Recoverable metal should be treated as a resource with value, not simply something to throw into a general waste stream.
